Art & Astronomy (& Pizza) Collide

Announcing the first ever Banjo Astro After Dark November 9!

Hi everyone! I’m super excited to announce that Astro After Dark is joining forces with Banjo After Dark (a welcoming folk music jam) for a crazy cool event, Banjo Astro After Dark!

So mark your calendars! Saturday, November 9, 6:30pm at Borelli's Pizza! Eight local song writers are working on original compositions centered around an astronomical theme - Signal in the Noise, and I'll share a couple of short astronomy reflections mixed in with the music! You won't want to miss it!

If you’d like, you can read more and RSVP to the event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/2535706963486421

Regarding the theme: an astronomer’s whole life is finding signal in the noise, trying to tease out those tiny whispers from the cacophony of the night. Our job is to increase the signal to noise ratio of a source, to clearly separate wheat from chaff, light from dark, detection from interference.

This has really resonated for me the past year or two. If you’re interested, and perhaps by way of preview, here are some links to a couple of essays on example relevant themes, including: the silence and loudness of space, telescopes as tools for gathering scattered light, and tiny random interactions that collectively result in all the light we see.

How will it resonate for you? I’m also super excited to learn what hits from our all star program of song writers and performers: Jacob Parker, Marian Runk, Jess Baldissero, Rebecca Jasso, Juliann Wang, Gary Glazner, Jim Riner, and Emma Lazar!

I hope to see you there!

All the best,

Luke
